LED For Safer Homes
A dark house can not only be spooky, but also dangerous. It is easy to make poor judgment calls, like missing steps, running into objects, and the dreaded toilet bowl tumble— when you sit on a seat that has been left up. Fortunately, there are many LED lighting solutions that can make your home a safer and less frightening place when the lights are out.
Motion Sensor Lights
A motion-sensor LED night light plugs into any standard wall outlet. When it detects motion nearby, the light turns on automatically. The LED lights within light up a wide area of floor space and are programmed to stay on for several minutes before turning off again. This makes them perfect for pass- through areas like hallways and stairs. They are quick to install and can be easily moved.
Always On Lights
Other types of LED lights are programmed to come on in low- or no-light conditions, like illuminated wall plates. After removing the existing wall plate, you can plug the LED wall plate into the top outlet while leaving the lower outlet open for other uses. When lighting levels in the space drop, the light comes on. When they come up, the light goes off. Often these lights have multiple light level settings and power failure options. Many of these lights also promise up to three hours or more of illumination from an internal battery when the power failure option is activated.
Multi-in-one Lights
These lights have multiple uses, often three or four, and come in night light-type configurations most of the time. They plug into any standard wall outlet and generally have the ability to act as an always available flashlight. Other features you can expect to find in these lights include motion sensing and auto-on emergency lights for power outages.
Power Outage Systems
These lights often consist of multi-fixture systems, sometimes connected through a central hub unit. When the system sensor detects a power outage, it tells all the connected fixtures to turn on. These are different from many of the other solutions since they have the ability to light for up to forty hours or more on a single set of standard batteries. Many of these systems are also expandable, so each room in your home can stay lit, even during extended power outages.
Finally, the LED motion sensor toilet light is the answer to that ever-important question “Is the seat up or down?” These toilet lights illuminate the bowl. It glows red when the seat is up and green when the seat is down, making it easier to find the toilet and letting one know what action to take next. Not only is this light quite a conversation piece, it just could stop many household arguments in the wee hours of the night.
Whether it’s nasty weather, poor infrastructure, or just too much dark at night, LED lighting is a great way to enhance safety around your house while making late night trips to the bathroom and the fridge more than a little bit easier.
